ABOUT

IRINA STARKOVA (b.1987, Russia)

Irina’s practice includes performance, video, sculpture and VR exploring physical disenfranchisement to generate disruptive ideas of personhood and body within a post-internet narrative.

Parodying popular culture and gaming, her animations are a CGI sandwich of re-choreographed liminal characters on the edge of classification within pixilated cyber playgrounds. Within this virtual context, the subjects speak of emotional or physical phenomena from the position of rhizomatic  fluidity to question creativity and freedom of expression.

Irina is a member of the Digital Maker Collective, a group of artists, designers and developers exploring the impact of living among technical objects through socially engaged work and immersive technology.

Born in Moscow in 1987, Irina has worked in London, Moscow and France.  She is currently studying for a Masters in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art.
